Airiel Mulvaney

" My paintings are about space, quiet, chaos, and the unknown. An expression on canvas that is a dance between the inner world and the physical, always with the intention to bring forth onto the canvas/paper what is unseen.

Painting moves me into a primal mode; the reptilian, instinctual part of me is fully present and the conscious, cautious, careful me is gone. I grab paints and mix right on the canvas, abandoning the brush and allowing the paint to find its place. I capture what is there - the elements or energies that move within space. "

Airiel was born and formed in Houston, TX.

After a successful career as an Art Director and associate Creative Director for several ad agencies, Airiel moved to Berkeley where she received an MFA in studio arts.

Feeling inundated with the objective image so prevalent in the ad world, she choose to create artworks and art installations that are subjective and also experiential in nature. Her desire was and is to create work that can be sensed as well as seen. Her inspiration-the mystery, the mystical, and the unknown.

Airiel now paints and art directs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
