Alice Roche
alice roche offers a unique series of handcrafted jewelry inspired by the natural and built environment. The daughter of an architect, Alice has long been influenced by the process of building and has been making things as long as she can remeber. Drawn to the field of design she received a Master of Architecture degree from UC Berkeley in 2001. After graduating she practiced residential architecture in San Francisco. Longing to get her hands dirty, Alice turned to the craft of jewelry adapting her design sensibility to a smaller scale. In 2004, she introduced her first line of jewelry which now sells nationally and abroad. Handcrafted in her Mission District studio in San Francisco, her work reflects elements inherent to architecture: structure and geometry are paired with repetition, pattern and a play of lines. The exploration of architecture and the act of building guides the design of each piece from start to finish.
