Michael Schoenig
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1955 Michael Schoenig was raised on Long Island. At the age of 12 he began studying painting with his first teacher, a local artist named Rafael de Soto, who was known as the "Picasso of Pulp Fiction" for the numerous book and magazine covers he painted from the 1930's - 1950's. After graduating high school he attended the School of Visual Arts in New York from 1973 - 1975. Uncertain of his future, Michael left the School of Visual Arts to pursue other paths, which led him to Manhattan, San Antonio, Houston, and San Francisco.
After 23 years he moved back to New York and attended SUNY Plattsburgh as a non-traditional age student, where he renewed his artistic passion while achieving his long held dream of completing his BA in art. After graduating in 1999, Michael moved back to San Francisco where he is currently employed by San Francisco Opera.
He maintains an art studio in San Francisco at 1890 Bryant St. and continues to pursue his career as an artist; regularly exhibiting and selling his artwork. Recently, his painting View from the Road, Utah was published in How did you paint that? 100 ways to paint LANDSCAPES, volume 1, published by International Artist.
