Michelle Inouchi

I am a third-generation painter whose grandfather and uncle were both artists and Kansas City Art Institute graduates.  I also attended KCAI and later transferred and graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute.  The availability of paints, brushes, canvases and instructions at an early age inspired a sense of wonder and creativity in all endeavors that followed.  I face a blank surface with certainty that the image already exists, only to be discovered and brought to light via playful and spontaneous efforts.  The results always surprise me and if I don’t like them, I keep on working.  My recent paintings are about rapid transformation.  It is my feeling that we human beings, among other species, are approaching a quantum leap or “Vast Awakening” at an increasing rate of acceleration.  Call it mutation, or evolvement or something else but as the earth changes, we as human beings, are rapidly changing as well.  I hope that my visual representations of our changing environment and humanity will produce a de-mystifying effect and evoke questions in the viewer’s mind.
