Michelle Elizabeth Rose

I create personal visions of the human condition using the body as the principle means of communication. My paintings are representational although not necessarily realistic and are always focused on the human figure. I work with oil on canvas and most of my paintings are life-sized or larger.

I believe very deeply that the body holds an internal knowing which far surpasses rational thought. This belief forms the basis of my work. It has always seemed clear to me that the mind is extraordinarily good at diminishing and ignoring what happens in it’s daily experience, while the body is inherently blessed with instantaneous and unmediated response. It is this bodily or somatic expression, whether subtle or overt, which continues to hold my adoration and fidelity.

Based on my life experience, my visions, my impressions, and my deepest thoughts and emotions, I work to translate this broad range of input onto canvas.
